A word to the wise: enjoy the mild conditions, while they last!

Do wise people really require, having a “word”, or words, being bestowed upon them? It seems to me, that if they are actually wise, they’ll already know. I don’t see any of our intelligences, classified or certified to be at any certain level, being necessary for acknowledging the fact that February, and the days leading into it, have brought us much nicer winter weather. So much so, we will rename the month, until winter decides to take it away from us: Fabruary!

Yes, I know, less than ideal mid-50s with partly cloudy conditions, are rarely described as fabulous. Admittedly, it’s a stretch. But if you take a quick check back over the past couple of weeks, you have to admit, it’s pretty good. We already know this month is the “gateway month” to spring. It is true, that spring will officially arrive in March. February is our designated portal to transition into spring. That is fabulous! It’s Fabruary!

Today is not the time to be contemplating cicadas.  Considerable consternation will have no effect on their emergence, or their activities. They are noisy critters. At times, they are downright obnoxious. Now is no time for worry or trepidation. We’ll discuss these little fellows more in the future, but this is not the time. It’s Fabruary.

It’s a good time to begin spotting those earliest of arrivals, things that surely make our hopes soar. I’m talking about the flowers of winter. Hellebores put on a show. Buttercups are about to bust. Winter Jasmine flowers are soon to arrive, and certainly, in masse. One more ‘early bloomer’, that is great for winter gardens, is witch hazel. No matter which hazel you choose! You simply can’t go wrong: it’s Fabruary.

Grab your gardening partner, bring along the children, pack the pooch; come out and see us. We have much to show you. It’s Fabruary!
