A Wet Reset for Spring

Open Memorial Day 9a-Noon; Free bag of EarthMix® Garden™ with every $100* purchased!

It's the time of year when many begin to think that spring is nearly over with summer now staring us in the face. It has gotten a bit warmer, a bit sooner than many of us like. It doesn’t mean spring is over, just yet. Overall, the weather conditions could not be more perfect for putting the finishing touches on your garden.

Just a week ago, we were all beginning to get a bit concerned about the dry conditions. Swiftly, that situation has rectified itself. Even if you didn't get copious amounts of rainfall over the week past, you got a significant amount. We have received over 2” of rain here at the nursery. All things considered, many folks around the area have received an inch or more of rain since last Tuesday. When you combine adequate moisture with seasonal temperatures it makes for great planting conditions.

It looks as though the rain over the past several days is now passed, but the rainfall was needed and necessary, even if it does make us alter our plans from time-to-time.  Having adequate ground moisture makes for comparatively easy digging; and that makes soil preparation much easier as well.  I am sure I sound like a broken record at times: often referring to gardening rudiments such as watering and soil preparation.  I do have a reason for that.  They are imperative for success.  Horticulturalist, Ben Trest, gives great insight on, “How to Water Your Landscape”, in a timely, and informative webinar.

Other informative additions to our ever-growing catalog of information: Caroline Gant talks, “TropicAnnuals”, while Austin Lohin provides his flowering faves in, “Flower Power Shrubs”.

In an effort to better make my point, and to extend much appreciation to you, as a BatesRewards member*, we're giving away a Free bag of EarthMix® Garden™, (a $6.99 value) for every $100 you purchase! Offer extends through Monday, May 30, 2022*. One additional note: Memorial Day Monday, our hours are: 9a-Noon.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend,

David Bates
