Yeah it’s hot. It’s going to be that way for a while…it’s only July. I don’t know how many triple digit days we’ve had so far, or how many we’ll have before it’s all over, but I am strangely getting used to it. Personally, the difference between 96 and 103 is almost indiscernible. We’re in for a string of days. Days that may make you question your sanity. Days so hot you could probably fry and egg on the pavement; I have no idea why you would, ‘cause you’re dang sure not going to eat it! Other people may question your sanity as well. I know they question mine…and mine too!
Rain continues to be hit and miss. Early this morning, areas north and east of Nashville received about an inch of rain. If you live in Bowling Green or Franklin, Kentucky, you got that amount. Nearby Russellville, Kentucky got nothing. Cookeville, Crossville, Sparta, Mt. Juliet, Lebanon and Murfreesboro all received about an inch. Nearby Smyrna, Priest Lake, and most of Hendersonville got nothing. We received nearly ¼” of rain here at the nursery; neighboring Talbot’s Corner/Trinity Lane got about .3”. Pretty much everywhere south and west of Nashville missed this one.
Whether you received rainfall or not, watering needs to be in your thoughts. Even those fortunate souls that got a copious amount of rainfall, cannot afford to ‘Zone Out’ regarding the water requirements of plants. It is easy to fall in the trap of thinking, “We got a really good rain, and now I don’t need to water”, and that may be true for a few days, but the hot, sunny weather will quickly dry the soil. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security.
With that in mind, planting might seem ludicrous. It is not. We have secret weapons, in addition to water: container grown plants and soil amendments. Through July 28, all growing things, plus bagged EarthMix® Proganix-i™ and EarthMix® Landscape™ are all 15% off!*
