SCIENTIFIC NAME: Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry'-- COMMON NAME: Black Fountain Grass-- GARDEN SIZE: 2 ft. x 2 ft.; 3 ft. in bloom-- USDA ZONE: 5-9-- EXPOSURE: Full Sun-- SEASON OF ACTIVITY: Warm Season-- WATER & SOIL: Average to dry, well-drained soil; Can handle a variety of soil conditions-- HABIT (FORM): Compact, mounded clump-- FOLIAGE: Perennial; Light green blades-- BLOOM TIME & COLOR: July to August; Blush pink-colored bottlebrush plumes with a dark purple hue toward the interior-- CARE: Leave stalks throughout fall and winter for interest and crown protection. Cut clumps back to approximately 6 inches from the ground in late winter (Late February/Early March) before new growth begins to push up.
