COMMON NAME: Dianthus AMERICAN PIE® Cherry Pie

GARDEN SIZE: 8-11 inches tall x 8-11 inches wide

GROWTH RATE: Fast

USDA ZONE: 5 - 9

EXPOSURE: Full Sun, Part Sun

WATER & SOIL: Prefers well-drained soil and has low to average water requirements.

HABIT (FORM): Compact, Mounded

FOLIAGE: Semi-evergreen; Silver-Blue

FLOWERS: Red blooms, resistant to bending. Blooms spring through autumn.

PLANT ORIGIN: Europe and Asia, with a few species in Africa, and one species (D. repens) in arctic North America (not here).

WILDLIFE SUPPORT: Feeds native bees and lepidoptera (moths and butterflies). Deer resistant, but susceptible to rabbits.

FERTILIZING: Give a root stimulant or 4-3-3 fertilizer during initial planting, then feed lightly in late winter or early spring with compost or an organic fertilizer.
